The World Affairs Program
The World Affairs Program is a student-run academic program within the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy, which gives the students of FSU a social, academic, and competitive outlet in an educational setting.
The primary mission of the World Affairs Program (WAP) is to promote an increased awareness of the global community and encourage personal and professional growth among those who participate in the program. Membership in the organization is both free and open to students of all majors and levels. WAP takes a multifaceted approach to these goals, ensuring everyone has diverse opportunities to participate. The program includes the following activities:
Model United Nations Conference Simulations - the FSU Model United Nations (MUN) traveling team is ranked top ten in the country for overall performance, above universities such as Yale and Harvard. As a MUN delegate, you will have an opportunity to travel around the country at a subsidized cost to simulate United Nations and crisis body debates. If you are interested in trying out for a travel team next year, please come to one of our MUN interest meetings on either August 27th, September 1st, or September 2nd, 2020.
Campus Debates - Every Thursday WAP will host general body meetings to discuss or debate pressing international and political issues.
Mentor Programs - The WAP mentor-mentee program allows members to be paired with an upperclassmen with similar interests. We host a series of group activities and individual meetings where underclassmen can gain mentorship and guidance from their mentor.
Speakers - At our general body meetings, distinguished speakers such as professors and government officials often address the club and encourage group discussion.
Campus Political Activity - Through hosting debates with other organizations and unions on campus, WAP is able to become a part of the campus political discussion.
World Affairs Journal - This year WAP is piloting a new program to help undergrads get upper-division writing experience. We will be hosting a journal where members can submit opinion pieces regarding world issues for the opportunity to be published on our website.
Travel - If you are a member of one of our MUN traveling teams, you will get a chance to travel around the world for a subsidized price. This year, our program is planning to attend MUN conferences in Los Angeles, CA, Washington D.C., and Atlanta, GA!
